Service centers

These warehouses are where your company stores products to repair or refurbish before they're sent back out as repaired items. It's also common for these warehouses to handle returns and exchanges, but most companies hire a separate warehouse for those types of items.

Storage warehouses

These warehouses store and archive your products. This is the most expensive option, and you should avoid this type of warehouse if possible. You usually want to avoid this option because it doesn't make much sense to tie up money in unsold inventory that isn't earning any return for you.

Find the right warehouse for your needs.

You want to find a warehouse that will meet the following criteria:

     Save you money on storage and fulfillment costs.

     Be in an area where you can easily find and hire staff.

     Allow you easy access to big trucks, so you don't have to pay for expensive freight charges or use third-party transport.

You need to know your expected sales volume to determine whether or not you qualify for free-storage options. You also need to have an idea of what kind of time frame you have for storing your products before they're sold. Knowing this information will help you find the best option, which is usually a warehouse closest to where customers are located, so that you can use discounted freight carriers.

Retail shelving is an excellent option because it allows customers to easily browse your products as if they're at a brick-and-mortar store. This is also a perfect option for drop-shipping retailers because it makes it easy to ship out multiple orders in one box, saving you money on packaging and postage.

You need to make sure you always have the right tools to do the job. Your warehouse must be properly equipped to handle all of your shipping and storage needs, including forklifts or pallet jacks for when products need to be moved.
